BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY LEADERS ROUNDTABLE
In recognition of the crucial role that businesses and industries play in the sustainable development of oceans and of coastal communities, the Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands invited representatives of businesses and industries related to oceans to participate in the Business and Industry Leaders Roundtable for discussion and possible partnerships to achieve the sustainable development of oceans, coasts, and small island developing States.
The Business and Industry Leaders Roundtable held its first meeting on October 10, 2005, as a parallel event of
The Ocean Policy Summit (TOPS) 2005: The International Conference on Integrated Ocean Policy: National and Regional Experiences, Prospects, and Emerging Practices, which was held in Lisbon, Portugal (see
First Business and Industry Leaders Roundtable Report
). The Roundtable was co-hosted by the Luso-American Development Foundation and the Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands, and chaired by Mr. Paul Holthus, Executive Director of the Marine Aquarium Council, USA. Eleven representatives of various ocean industry sectors attended this first meeting of the Roundtable.
On January 24, 2006, the second meeting of the Business and Industry Leaders Roundtable was held in conjunction with the
Third Global Conference on Oceans, Coasts and Islands at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France (see
Second Business and Industry Leaders Roundtable Report
). This meeting was attended by ocean industry representatives.
