U.S.-Caribbean Educational Cooperation in Integrated Coastal Management


ICM Course in Miami: Focus on US and Brazil

This course, to be held on January 6-18, 2003 at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, examines the general ICM principles, goals and strategies, as well as coastal management experiences in two large federalist coastal nations: the U.S. and Brazil. The intensive course will also present specific ICM topics such as marine protected areas, ecological restoration, beach management, water quality management, port issues, tourism, environmental impact assessment, among others. The course will offer an extensive field component, and students will have the opportunity to develop group case study projects of publishable quality. Lecturers will be international experts in ICM.

This is a University of Miami course, organized under the U.S.-Brazil Consortium in Marine Policy implemented by the University of Delaware, the Fundação Universidade do Rio Grande, the University of Miami, and other partners. MEDCOAST 2000
Training program that is specially designed to address ICM issues and problems, which are particular to or significant for the Mediterranean and the Black Sea countries.

 

Advanced Study Course in Mediterranean ICM
An interdisciplinary course on ICM held at the University of Nice from September 4-15, 2000. The course aims to reinforce training and awareness actions, providing a scientific basis for understanding the processes occurring in the marine and coastal Mediterranean environment, as well as their interplay with anthropogenic forces and pressures.

 

The 2000 Summer Institute in Coastal Management

The University of Rhode Island conducts this training program that teaches the practical skills required to design, implement and learn from integrated coastal management programs.
